8 things that we did to get through the funk!

Hi there!

Nice to see you back!

It's day two of 2025 and this year came in like a boomerang. A few days ago, Coltie & I woke up with sore throats. We went through what felt like a sinus infection or a cold. Then my throat began hurting even worse at night. I felt normal during the day but at night even my ears hurt so bad that I couldn't sleep.

I told Coltie on New Year's Eve that if we weren't feeling better tomorrow that we were going to go to a walk-in clinic together. Which we did.

So, our New Years Day was spent at the walk-in clinic. We ended up that we were on the end of the viral stuff that's going around however, my throat was getting infected, and he has pink eye now from it.

I told my cousin that maybe this is a sign of a great year ahead. In the past I've had peaceful new year's days and rough years so maybe this is the sign that a great year is ahead. Right? Maybe?

But while trying to get better those last few days we really pumped the "crunchy" remedies. Ha. literally in some ways - you'll see.

My mom was an all-natural, crunchy hippie before it was cool, so I was raised up with this kind of stuff and now my boys get to experience some of these things. But when mama heard we were sick she loaded us up on remedies. Here are some things we did and what we thought!

  1. A Fruit, Nut, & Vegetable Smoothie. It was a bit weird, but oddly enough me and Kayven and Coltie all enjoyed it. Let's see, A banana, a cup of blueberries, milk, almond butter, strawberries, arugula, & walnuts. Almost tasted like an almond milk and coconut milk flavor.

  2. Rice Sock heated up in the microwave for 30 seconds. These things get hot quick so keep an eye on them! But I used it on my ear and it helped a lot and I also put it over my sinuses and within ten to fifteen minutes I coughed up the NASTIEST gunk. LIKE NASTYYYYYY. Then I felt like I could breathe, and my face felt so much clearer. (My friends also suggested a Neti Pot!) So, it definitely did something to that sinus.

  3. Apple Cider Vinegar + Lemon + Honey Water. I am used to drinking this so this was pretty delicious to me. Mama knows exactly how much of each ingredient to put in there and it's just so good!

  4. Turmeric + Hot Sauce + Cayenne + Chili Powder covering a hamburger helper. At this point I was just trying to burn it out of my system LOL. Did it help? No. But it was yummy.

  5. Lots of fresh fruits, veggies & whole foods. Now this is actually what probably helped Kayven the most. He started complaining of a sore throat and it only lasted one night, and he was back to normal. But they ate so much fruit and veggies this day. Like oranges, blueberries, banana, watermelon, greens, peas, fresh eggs the list goes on and on!

  6. Lemon Water all day! I kept a half of a lemon in mine and the boy's water for a few days and we sipped on the lemon water all day. I don't actually know if it helped but it was another yummy thing and it kept us hydrated so I guess it did help in that area! I also drank a ton of orange juice! That helped my throat feel better somewhat!

  7. Humidifier with Vicks vapor solution & an essential oil diffuser with eucalyptus and mint oils inside. Now this was a game changer for me at least. At one point during one of the particularly rough nights I was curled up with the diffuser on the couch and I could literally feel the mucus in my sinuses breaking apart. And my house smelled SO GOOD. Smelled like a spa in here at night.

  8. Gargling mouthwash that had hydrogen peroxide in it. It helped temporarily. I saw it as a hack on Tiktok. I did go to the doctor the next day, but it did help temporarily.

But in the end, even with all those things we did go to the walk-in, I don't play with pink eye and my throat had developed pus pockets and were swollen. So even though these things helped us get through the main part of the funk we did have to go on to the doctor. I ended up with shots in the booty and three types of medicines to clear up my throat infection. And poor Coltie Bug ended up with eye drops for this pink eye!

So, if you've got the funk that's going around. Some of these things here will help with the symptoms but if you get too bad off, please go to the doctor! All these things will help with alleviating symptoms, however if your throat is infected like mine was or you end up with pink eye like Coltie, it's only going to become worse.

Hope you get to feeling better!

Talk to you soon!
