Summer Down South: The Concrete Pool & The Mermaids.

My childhood Summers were so dreamy that even now I look back on them and I am so pleasantly pleased. One memory I have is my aunt's house. I spent many days at her house. Her backyard was an oasis. A pond with a wooden bridge and deck. A pool on one side of the bridge and the pond on the other side. You could follow the trail around the pond and along the way were stone benches and many little hidden gems. Me and my friend Ainsley, we spent many days in the concrete pool with my grandmother and aunt sitting in lawn chairs by the pool chitchatting. I couldn't swim, but still enjoyed playing mermaids around the little concrete pool.
We'd play mermaids for what seemed like half the day then eat a sandwich and drink a Caprisun off the side of the pool while we giggled back and forth about anything and everything.
Sometimes after getting out of the pool we'd throw on our shorts and flipflops then go exploring around the yard pretending we were fairies in the woods. We would go to the ditch at the edge of her yard where bamboo grew and we'd "fish" for the crawdads in the ditch.
My childhood Summer memories were so incredible. I wouldn't change them for anything.
